Oh Phil, I thought your parrot's name was Victor and you called him something like Vickie, which I dared not call  him. (smile) Now, I just read part of your reply with my Braille display, and found his name clearly called "Beaky!"  what a revelation, haha!  Looking forward to recordings.  And by the way, I tend to prefer reading what someone, or a parrot, is saying in the recording before I hear it.  The same with learning a language on my own.  Once I understand and recall  exactly how a word is pronounced, I'm happy to listen from then on, as some people might say it's more important to listen than read.  This is largely because of my hearing loss, and maybe this tip will help others like me.

Sharon,

I should record her happy birthday song and put it on the echurch website for people to hear.  I think you are asking if Beaky, our African Gray parrot, can sing it yet and the answer is no to that.  He does count up to 5 and he does a squeezable old style bicycle horn.  When I get up the energy to sit and edit a recording, I'll make sure I get a sample of everything he does.  He calls each of our dog by their name on sight.  He still does the song Sandy taught him she used to sing to our little dog named Jack.  "Jack sprat; the wonder rat, doot doot doot dudle dudle."  Well, it loses some of its joy unless you hear the song.

Do you have it on your website in Mp3, or does she just want person-to-person experience?  Has Victor learned the whole thing yet?

Subject: Happy Birthday

Sandy made up a happy birthday song she sings to the grandkids when we have their birthday celebrations.  So, a friend of ours turned 82 recently so Sandy called Gary and said she had a special song for him for his birthday.  Gary didn't know what to think but he listened and when it was done, he said he'd never in his life had someone sing happy birthday to him personally like that.  Well, for the rest of the story, Gary called Sandy last night and said he was going to ask for a favor.  He had a friend turn 72 and lived in Arizona now but Gary and this friend of his grew up together in northern Iowa and not far from where Sandy grew up.  Gary requested Sandy call this total stranger and sing her happy birthday song so she did.  The man wasn't home at the time so she recorded it on his answering machine.  An hour later, the man called Gary, laughing and laughing, and told Gary how surprised he was and how wonderful to get such a special birthday song.  Gary said the guy about busted a gut when he heard Sandy was from Fort Dodge Iowa; near his childhood town.  It's the little things that count in the Christian life.
