That was a topic brought up in a conversation with an elderly friend back
home. One of my God-fathers! He expressed concern over the drive to have a
vote at National Assembly and referendum. I responded that if anyone or
both happen the outcome will be positive for Yahya.

Whether it will/will not is not much of concern for me. Under current
political environment Yahya is already King whether that title is added to
his name or not he works as king.

He would probably not do it - because that will be in the face with the
international community. This is a guess on my part. He's so consumed with
power he might after all do it. I wish he did because it may also motivate
us to charge him up.

The key questions are:

1) who has authority to sanction National Assembly/referendum? Not the
constitution or subsequent amendments because the constitution didn't
create Democratic Republic of Gambia but simply recognized it.

2) what would be the added value for a change from republic to kingdom?

3) Who has authority to approve such a bill into law?

4) When shall we find it necessary to end these madnesses by start doing
the right work to claim a constitutional institutional democratic
republic. Or should we continue talking about it?

20 years ago Yahya was telling PPP that no one person should reside over a
nation for so long. Today he wanted it not only for life but also a birth
right for his children/family.

This brought me to my concern that if our struggle want to ride on the back
of individuals/groups - we may never succeed but even if we do the
probability of such person becoming a king is very high. Is Yahya standing
out supreme among those who execute the coup not a bright example. It has
lot to do with our culture as to how we perceive/ relate leaders.

I believed growing an organic people centered movement for a sweeping
overhaul and democratic reorientation.

Only time will tell how they thought they can legally change us from a
republic to kingdom, theology or what have you.

Keep Us, Great God of Nations, To The Gambia Ever True.
