Mr Jammeh ,
I believe it is more human than culture or religion,or ethnicity to wish and die for a better life, equality, justice etc in a collective society. They can have some aspect of influence  but are not the basic,so i am with you here too.Well we might be wrong.

Samateh

The point was some suggesting we living in Europe/America are wanting western democracy for Gambia. Is there a western or African or Gambian democracy?

I posted there us no such thing as western democracy as far as the definition is concern. Do people's cultures and traditions factor into governing ideals - sure. Yet I do not see what is in the definition of democracy that is against cultures, morals and/or religions in Gambia.

How political parties and/or politicians conduct themselves are questionable in many instances not withstanding America/Europe's people's rep. do it better than ours.

Regardless the question was whether wanting democracy in Gambia is un-Gambia or some foreign concept.

Hei,
Just some few lines.I will hate to see a Gambia were it is only political parties with money that change political power among themselves, democrats and liberals (consevatives) whiles the others struggle to get a simple message through .I will hate to see a government that does not care what it's citizen reason when it comes to for example, going to war, closing an institutions without taking heed to those affected but can use tax payers money against their will to bail financial institution who have been living on the sweat and tears of the people. I dont know what western democracy is ,but if it is bourgeois democracy you are reffering to,there is Much to be desired.

Over the years I received many resentment over the goals of our struggle (assuming it exist).

The usual swags are '' we're advocating for Western Democracy which isn't possible in Africa/Gambia''. First is to say what is considered West didn't start with democracy but have come afar. In fact the history of West is more barbaric by any measure than Africa/Gambia. Noticeable differences between Europe and USA in relation to democracy is the former's incorporation of their past into the new structures while the later went pure. It most be said that none has perfected it  but no doubt a good yardstick for those of us seeking one.

I then look up the definition of democracy to see what is in it that's un-African/un-Gambia as our oppositions seem to suggest. Hereunder what I found

''a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives''

So here are my questions to the oppositions:

1) what's unique about us that we can't/shouldn't institute a free and fair process to elect/un-elect  our leaders. It that un-Gambia?

3) why can't we have laws that serve our collective interests and as well applied to all uniformly. Again is that un-Gambia?

3) Separated powers - may sound or in reality a new concept. But isn't it reasonable if so many are bundled together into a nation to find a fairer way to collective manage our affairs with decent degree of checks and balances. Europe/West was all about feudalism, aristocracy, etc......

4) why not prove the accusation against you for one thing or another rather than criminalize opinion/views?

5) why are we trusted to own our nation by colonial masters but our own sons/daughters think we are unfit to elect/select our own division, district or village head? Is that Western? Or is that un-Gambian?

6) let me understand why can't/shouldn't we have our taxes at work for our interests rather than lining up someone's pocket? Is basic fairness un-Gambian?

Enough of the examples fitting the above definitions.<
