"How can someone win an election who can't campaign in Foni nor even dare cross that portion under the cover of the night. That means all other schedules for Kiang and Jarras are hastened to avoid night ride through Foni."  -Burama

Greetings Burama –

Thanks for the nice pieces as always. Something caught my attention. I suggest that we don't forget the defiance of Foni in our struggle. Last time I checked the archives, the late Shyngle Nyassi spent the eve of his death on Gainako radio energizing Gambians on the need for continued defiance against Gambia’s tyranny. There are countless others on defiance. I think Jammeh’s default to power is creating a mistake in both small minds and big minds. We must be very careful that as a result of Jammeh’s actions, that we don’t beat Foni for crimes she is innocent of, when Foni and its citizens are the first victims of this tyranny. This is not to be sensitive about the mention of Foni, but I want us to distinguish between the two. Femi Peters’ use of the PA system was in the Kombos. The recent arrest of the UDP folks is not in Foni. Most of what has happened to Gambians of mayhem is happening across the length and breadth of the country. The above would suggest that Foni does carry the burden, and to the contrary, you will be surprised that this campaign you are talking about, you won’t even be able to do it in your own home city of birth. That is just the Gambia we are living in. We are just dealing with a bad system of Governance so the entire country and all those participating in this are the problem.

On another note though, I share your opinions greatly on what is at stake, contained in your continued enlightening pieces.

Best always,

Yero

>
> Now how will Yahya go? The best answer still sit with some opposition union formula will do it. Whatever that formula, it will have to rely on elections. Well Yahya is the referee of that election. That's a definite cul de sac - can't you see? How can someone win an election who can't campaign in Foni nor even dare cross that portion under the cover of the night. That means all other schedules for Kiang and Jarras are hastened to avoid night ride through Foni.

> Understanding politics suggests that Yahya go first is a non political starter if you have no army lined up to fire and/or a very vigilant citizenry ready to die in the streets.
>
> Regardless we have problems and it's a complicated puzzle.
>
> Tell me how would you practically start fitting this puzzle. Please do not repeat elections for a starter. Certainly elections is a tool we will need down the road presumably when no one individual is in control of it.
