Gambian dies in Libya

A Gambian man from Badibu, Lamin Saidy, Monday 20th January passed away in a Tripoli hospital after being brutalized, a family source has informed Foroyaa newspaper. His mortal remains were interred last week by his friends and compatriots under the crust of the Libyan soil due to the logistical nightmare of flying his body back home.

The source said, “It was just today that we received a call from the man with whom he has been staying in Libya. He informed us that Lamin was released just a week ago; but due to the torture meted out to him while in detention, he passed away in hospital.
He has sadly died of the effects of the cruel treatment. He has left behind him in this world a wife and one child”.

Describing him as “very quiet ,pious and respectful” the family source added that the late Lamin Saidy had lived in Libya for three years in his quest to illegally migrate by rickety and overcrowded  boats to Italy in search of better
