LJD,

Belated EID Mubarak and thanks for sharing... Interesting that the PPP old hands are beginning to wake up from their dormant sleep. I think it would be unjust despite all their short comings during their reign for current Party loyalists to let the party that led the Gambia to Independence and dominated the political process for decades to die a slow death. Though multiparty politics look break in Gambia, I think it can only help the situation if PPP actively rejoins the political fight and reclaim its loyalists from Jammeh...

Of course they made many mistakes at the time but I think those mistakes are much easier to correct than what we are confronted with today with an iron fist dictator...I believe if the likes of Sir Dawda were to be in power today with the level of advocacy resistance he would have been more open to changes that makes sense... I could be wrong but that is what I think... will see where this new euphoria will take them...

Officials and militants of the People Progressive Party (PPP)-the party that led The Gambia to nationhood on February 18, 1965, held a consultative meeting in Silver Spring Maryland on Saturday August 10, 2013. The meeting was coordinated by the Chairman of the USA chapter of the PPP, Mr. Kebba Jallow, former Chairman of the Kanifing Municipal Council, and was held under the overall leadership of Omar Amadou Jallow (affectionately called OJ) interim party Secretary General. The purpose of the meeting was to among other things discuss and agree on concrete steps to review and revive the party’s constitution and manifesto as well as to mobilize the required funding and other logistics for the convening of an emergency party Congress.
In this regard, the interim Secretary General briefed the meeting on the outcome of the consultations he had with the UK chapter in association with former vice president and Finance minister, Hon. BB Dabo. After a day-long brain storming session, a US-based Steering Committee was formed and tasked with responsibility of putting in place all the requirements for a successful Congress during the first quarter of 2014.
Delegates to the meeting came from all over the US and were able to raise a substantial portion of the funds required and are confident of exceeding the targeted level of funding for the Gambia Congress and the operation of the Banjul-based Secretariat within two months.
In his closing remarks, our party interim leader, Hon. Omar Amadou Jallow assured the meeting that “the PPP stands ready to rescue The Gambia and to usher in democracy, good governance and the rule of law.”
The exact time and location of the up-coming PPP Congress will be announced by no later than November 30, 2013.
