No Phil, I don't think that escape is the rapture but God will  alongside the testing "also make a way out in order that you may be able to bear up under it (Wuest). As for the rapture, I keep thinking of that old cartoon character that always was saying "Let's get out of here!" If practicing the high jump would help, I'd be leaping all over the place. smile

Always a great promise, Grant, so thanks for posting it.  Do you, Grant, thing the way of escape is when the Lord returns or is there a form of escape for every day situations and circumstances beyond our control?

Brad, I think you pretty well described it. I would add this only, First Corinthians 10:13. "There has no temptation, (Greek peirasmos, testing, trial, affliction) taken [hold] of you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer [permit] you to be tested above that you are able [to cope], but will with the testing also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear [up under] it." How many times I have wished that verse ended with the word "escape". But the Lord be thanked that He is always there to provide the strength needed if I just trust Him.

Yep. Let God have control.

I know, you just said if God was in control.

Here’s the thing. Bad things happen to good people. Full stop.

Too often Christians feel because God’s on their side and with them, nothing bad will happen or their life will run perfect with no problems.

I can answer that in four words.

Joseph, Daniel, Paul, Peter.

God has given every human being an awesome gift called free will.

Concerning myself, I could make a horrible mistake in life, we’re imperfect and subject to that, and as a result cause myself some problems. Of course, the more I pay attention to God’s prompting from the Holy Spirit in decisions I need to make or avoid, the less that should happen, but we are human and have the ability to think our way out of God’s desire for us.

James said a double-minded man ought not to expect to get anything from God, or even that we can be denied things if the intent of their use is not godly or in His will.

Concerning others, someone could also exercise that free will by breaking in my door and robbing me right this second, open firing in a theater next time I go to a movie, or similar at work.

God never promised he’d protect me from that or that  nothing bad could happen, what he did promise is he’d be with me always, to help me through the trials and tribulations,  and those who chose not to accept Christ and attempt with their heart to abide by his Word would pay for  their actions.

As nice as it would be, God is not our autopilot or body guard in life. Perhaps that is why we’re directed to pray for others, to intercede, to help when we can?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, "Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

When Jesus said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe,” I believe he was talking about physically seeing his work on Earth, but I think too that carries over to those who look at Christians, or are Christians, and still believe despite what goes on physically, because God sees the heart of man, and we ought to in like manner.

God may straighten me out on this, that’s entirely possible, but that’s how I’ve come to believe by reading a and living.

You don’t have to give loved ones the same old gift: card, candy, flowers, etc. They’re worth a gift that’s as uniquely individual as they are.

Anybody feel this way and if so, do you know how to get out of that situation?
