This may sound funny, but you said that you weren't sure about the figures on CPUID Hardware monitor,
but I'm not sure why you're not. (g)
The panel shows Present - , Min.-  and Max.-   temps in the columns, so if your present temps start to approach
max. values, you know that things are overheating for some reason.

which I missed mentioning about the battery. When older ,the battery tends to run hotter ,since internal resistance
will increase over time.

Disconnecting the battery will help a bit ,but won't solve the internal heat problem if related to the fan
and it defeats the portability feature of the laptop.

It's an Inspiron 1525, if that helps.  I'm not very good with the 
forums, as I mostly don't understand what they're saying.
Sounds like I need to replace the fan.  Meanwhile, should I remove the 
battery?
