Common sense tells me that defections from the UDP are always sexed up to win the political propaganda. This strategy emanated from the First Republic when the PPP used this method of propaganda against the National Convention Party, the reality is this was far from what occurred on the political scene.

Point II: You wrote "Darboe never gave a chance to anyone else but himself"- Knowing what Darboe stood for, this man is not power-hungry. At a time time, when leadership was lacking within the Opposition, Darboe VOLUNTEERED to join and was subsequently ELECTED to LEAD the United Democratic Party. Perhaps, you should be reminded that Ousainou sacrificed his lucrative legal career to take up politics. Maybe you can name one Gambian who has taken a similar change of profession.

Point III- The leadership of the UDP is not a closed shop. if Mr Kebbeh wishes to lead the party, then he is more than welcome to submit his nomination and wait for the next Party Congress. If he can demonstrate his suitability to lead a vanguard movement like UDP, then I will definitely campaign for his election.

Udp has defections than any other party in our history. U enjoyed a number coalition opportunities and yet still darbo never gave a chance to anyone else but himself. Because of the simple reason that its all about him. Did u forget juwara, hamat, and mai. Did he give a chance to anyone of them? At least the duo at pdois were gentleman enough to allow hamat to lead them. In addition, they followed and supported him throughout. When will udp get a new leadership? At least, it is clear that lawyer darbo's tenure is over. And that likely mark the begining of the end of udp.

Daffeh, u keep on saying that udp performed well, last I checked your trend has been downwards for 17 yrs.

Good grief, after 17 years of existence as a legitimate party, people are yet to sit back and look at the bigger picture within the UDP- that it is not a One Man Show. Whilst, we acknowledge that Darboe is the LEADER , he is not the OWNER . The party belongs to all Gambians that believes in the tenets of the justice, peace and progress. Unlike the APRC, Darboe has and will always act in line of the Party Manifesto/ Constitution, something which is a requisite for good governance in The Gambia.

I was told that lawyer darbo cannot run anymore, yet still he is not willing to give a chance to others. There is no better indicator than that. When will we get femi peters or shyngle to take over? That route may be the other option of salvaging udp. Having said that, I still believe the better option is to dismantle udp and have all your folks follow sedia.

However, the UDP Diaspora did petitioned the IEC on this issue but received no reply despite a follow-up by the Party's leadership in Banjul. Notwithstanding, I do agree that the issue should have been included in the reform agenda of the G6 since the group was formed solely for that purpose- to demand genuine electoral reform to ensure free and fair elections. I would like to think this was an oversight.

The obstacle is, has been, and likely will be lawyer darbo and udp.
