"I missed the US turkeys during thanksgiving and other holidays such as Christmas and 04 July." LJD.

LJD:

Thanks. It is humoring to see the above. The thanksgiving feast is a normally a blast. I like the history of it to pay tribute to farmers' produce.

Back to Sankanu's story, I have always seen him as a humorous writer. Since the human being’s mind easily forgets, Sankanu should be reminded that Dr. Janneh and Tamsier just came back to the US, directly from mile two prison. That wasn’t a nice exit to a place you said you were going to help. The Touray brothers from Texas working on the biometrics in the Gambia and one Ebrima Loopy saw the ghost of hell while trying to do their part. The list goes on and on. Who is Sankanu to be any different??

I was certainly hit hard by his directive language to online participants. In my view, I respect his right fully to political opinion. In one's political opinion comes with responsibility and respecting the view point of others especially the sensitivities of those directly affected by the capricious' regimes whims and caprices --others maimed for life, other sustained heartily injuries that justice cannot even resolve and host of other languishing in jail. To be celebrating this administration tantamount to an open mockery to victims and an act of trespass and criminal. Even where I am not advocating for tit and tat justice, I see it fitting to combat any such mockery and open bluff.

Like Hon. Sidia Jatta recently said in his interview with Demba and I paraphrase: If fire burnt you before and you know it burns. Why would you go back to the same fire again? If you get burnt again, who will sympathize with you?

Best regards,
Yero

No we don't do thanksgiving in the US sense out here in Queen Country. I missed the US turkeys during thanksgiving and other holidays such as Christmas and 04 July.

As far as our struggle against public lawlessness in The Gambia, nothing surprises me either. The latest episode is absolutely nothing and I ma quite glad GRTS accorded our good Prince access to the Gambian commoner.

I listened to your interview with Sosseh Colley and he guy from Atlanta and I am convinced you  speak better Mandinka than me. Sosseh was for many years my colleague at ActionAid. Good man, bad politics, and I'm glad you grilled them albeit politely and fairly. I think your proverb in Mandinka is NIN BORO MANG MEE KOMA TULA BUKA LON, meaning "when the running gets long and tough" only then do we know the person who trails behind, the loser, if you like. We (you, YJ, many others) are in this for the long haul and however protracted the struggle, victory will be ours, God willing. To paraphrase Patrick Henry, the challenge is clear: Give us Liberty, or Give us Death

Belated happy and memorable thanksgiving in the land of the free.

LJD,

Happy thanksgiving... not sure if you celebrate in UK but is Turkey Day here and YJ was bracing for the grand turkey... My friend YJ gets really frustrated with the twists and turns of the struggle...My advice always is to take things with a grain of salt... personally after witnessing the last 18 years of our struggle against impunity, nothing surprises me anymore from our fellow citizens. Am trying to remember the mandinka probert that talks about "when the running gets long and tough" that's when you know the people with the true endurance or loyalty... help me with that..

But my grand point in short is that we will all reap what we sow...

Regards

Demba

Never seen you this agitated over nothing. Read the second half of Joe's take on this thread and you may just find it quite consoling.

Joe/Cherno:

Like you, I was awakened to Sankanu's recent scoops from the Gambia. Since he is with us on the Gambia-L, he can as well choose to debate me here, Gainako, or anywhere else.

Just for disclosure, he recently contributed $100.00 when we were doing the fund-raiser for the two Gambians journalists (A. Saidykhan & B. Ceesay). I am equally aware that he contributed a similar amount on a separate fund-raiser.

That said, let's face the music and try to analyze what he is writing from home making people to believe that all is well at home. I question is notion that he is neutral. With due respect to Sankanu, nothing is further from the truth. You and I know that Sankanu got his business (film production as he calls it) to run and it is in his interest that he follows that interest. That is his personal choice. It was his personal choice to stay outside the Gambia for 15 years. His assessment and analysis are not accurate. It is just like visiting a hospital and hears from a patient suffering from a minor headache without getting to where they call 'harr-yalah' (Intensive care unit). Now, I understand he is trying to fire missiles to the online community in order to avoid the much needed scrutiny. Personally, I am going to call it as it is. His analogy and efforts to make the online community the scapegoat is outright hypocrisy. Not only that it makes him look ugly, it as well makes him look selfish.

If he is the humanitarian he tells us he is, he will be mindful of his language. A humanitarian ought to know better especially the sensitivities of those many victimized by this terror regime.  I bet you if he asks those two journalists, the family of Deyda Hydara, the victims of witchcraft families,Madi Ceesay and the Daily news, Taranga FM, Sheriff Bojang, the Independent,  and  the many victims of some of these alleged coups, etc... then the story will be written different. From what is obvious, he is making the noise only to please the powers-that-be and second to help him squeeze in within the system. Well, Mr. Sankanu, here is a brotherly advise. Just follow your projects and stop taking us for fools. It is not only morally wrong but is truly not sincere of you to be talking this loud to people who are first hand victims of this regime.

With what he is writing from the Gambia, a cheap campaign for the shameful administration, I bet to seriously disagree. I think he does have a lot of personal motives than sincerity in the name of helping to develop the Gambia. Development without respect of basic human rights in my view is as useless as the most useless thing.

In my view, there is nothing wrong with bringing development home, but kissing off to these criminals is not only wrong but terror itself.

Our great American President, Aba. Lincoln once said, “You can fool all the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”

To be continued.....

Best regards,
Yero

Che, what changes? This is more like comic relief. Omar Penn has a sung that said something to the effect of Sor Hammon Lingaye Yort Dinga Bayi lingai Yort". I may have just butchered the phrase but hope you catch my drift. Nice sales pitch Prince and the slick Bow and homage to Babili. Like Amadou, Sidi, and a whole host of predicessors, we go dey talk 'bout it right here 'pan Sour Sour. Prince Babs missed a big opportunity to not have listed one film, comedy, sketch, theatre, or Meyeh he produced, yet, he tells everyone and their GrandMa that his is a big time producer. I find that odd. If I slept over that part of the interview please advise. Prince, I now leave you to swim with your fellow crocodiles. They will get to you before Yaya does, for they will open the heavens to find out what you're made off. Amorna Nyou Forgorneh Nyor Genah Gaw Nyep, Ak Fagne Mujay! I saw "Watcha Ma Call it" and I've seen enough.
