Uncle Haruna,

Thank you for your counsel for more greater and sober reflection. In our current struggle for sanity in the Gambia it is often very easy for some of us to be carried away missing the larger picture for the minuscule portraits scattered all over.

I will love to see the Group of Six opposition parties not only issue statements regarding the manner and secretive nature of the execution of the nine death row inmates, but use this opportunity to take the fight to another level. However, reality teaches that (not because we know that the professor only claims to rely on the constitution when it serves his purpose) the executed persons were convicted through the available legal system in the Gambia whether rightly or wrongly. Hence to oppose the regimes execution of the courts verdicts needs to be done in a very sensible way. And one way of doing this is by advocating for due process in carrying out the courts verdicts. The bar could be raised higher by demanding for more sanity in the administration of justice in the country by asking for a halt to further execution of the remaining death row inmates and for a total abolition of the death penalty. This much, the G-6 opposition political parties could ask for and be seen to be reasonable and realistic both nationally and internationally even in the eyes of their opponents.

Now, following this statement I would love to see the G-6 organise a protest rally to inform their supporters of their position and send a clear message to the people especially bereaved families and those under threat of execution that they are with them and will stand with them against the Professor’s madness. This way, the G-6 and diaspora Gambians from Washington DC to New York, from Oslo to Amsterdam and Dakar, will converge in similar action in protest. The international community will be on our side and the Professor will be forced to listen and the G-6’s grand program for reform will be put on the table as part of negotiations to bring sanity back into the country.

Knowing the Professor and his love affair for showmanship and bravado, he might want to the stop the rally taking place by denying the G-6 a license for their protest rally. If this happens, then the G-6 should take up the gauntlet and go ahead with their rally in total opposition. Whatever the outcome of these actions will determine the mode and direction of the future of the struggle.

As matters stand right now we must proceed strategically with our actions to bring greater attention to the problems of our country to the caring international community. There is no need to rush, with greater focus and attention to the larger picture as my wordsmith Uncle Haruna has counseled we shall achieve our goals.

Settle down Cous Demba. Diasporans, the international community, resident Gambians, and the Group of SIX are solid partners against Yahya's tyranny.
You admitted that;

So unless you think GMC leadership is in error for ascending to the Group of SIX declaration, the only difference I see between you and them is temperance in acceleration. Where your sole aim is to remove Yahya, their aim is the larger goal of strengthening Gambia's institutions even post-Yahya. After the international demonstrations of outrage, Yahya's removal and procurement of treatment for him along with residual decrepitude still have to be managed.

I encourage your greater reflection Demba.

Change - political or social never comes without decisive and uncompromising leadership... The group of six's statement accused President Jammeh of executing the prisoners without regard to international and domestic reaction, yet they turn around and did exactly the same by ignoring the reaction and position of their Diaspora supporters and the international community!!!

Talk about blind leadership and icing of what appears to be a momentum to rally the international community and energize Gambians against injustices and oppression.. What a slap on the face against our most potential allies - Senegal and the rest of the world...

You are right. These group of six of which I am an outside member are trying to 
put out fire by using petrol.
The monster they are dealing now had already realised their fragmented minds  
and unless they come out of their shells a boldly condemn this tyrant by calling 
for his immediate resignation, he will never take them seriously. More so to 
legitimise his actions is legitimising his leadership. I believed they claimed 
the last elections unfair? So why waiting their time and ours writing to 
somebody who has less regards for them? It is quite shameful. These people 
should be now talking with one voice calling for this monster to go with asking 
for serious sanctions from the international community only when they can be 
speaking for me.x
