These pastors sure know how to intercede to attract some much needed bucks. Just stroke the frail ego of the world's worst president by a little grammatical gymnastics and voila! Breaking news and a million dollars intercede on behalf of the pastors! Comfraputations Fropessor Jembeh! Haqat!

The Gambian leader has been named the “Best African President 2010-2011” by the Pastors Intercessory Fellowship The Gambia. The prestigious award received on behalf of His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh by the secretary general and head of the Civil Service, Dr Njogu Bah Wednesday evening at State House in Banjul, was the end result of a thorough scrutiny of African leaders by the Fellowship.

According to the citation read by Reverend Naomi Johnson of the Fellowship, President Jammeh was awarded this honour in recognition of his quantum achievements such as the building of democratic institutions and good governance, economic advancement and social stability, national security, peaceful co-existence and religious harmony, building of sustainable infrastructure in education vis-à-vis the establishment of the University of The Gambia, access in primary health care delivery, Pan-Africanism and regional integration, and international peace building as evidenced in the peaceful roles in Ecowas region, particularly the peaceful resolutions of Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry and Cassamance conflicts respectively, amongst others.

Receiving the award on behalf of President Jammeh, SG Bah thanked the Fellowship for recognising the many achievements of the Gambian leader within a short period of time. He said: “I believe you are looking at his records – the developments that have taken place in this country, his leadership qualities, and also the peace and stability that he is maintaining in this country, and also our openness to our friends in the sub-region.”  While stating that the president appreciates this honour, the secretary general said he asked them to convey his deepest gratitude and appreciation for the thoughtfulness of the Fellowship and the recognition of his contribution to the development of this country.

He added: “The president reiterates his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in this country, providing the conducive environment for all and sundry, and also to be tolerant while practicing our religions. He is a Muslim and despite that he has done so much for Christianity and Islam. We all witness what he does for the Muslims during their feasts and it is the same thing that he is doing for the Christian community. We as the people of the Gambia appreciate the co-existence and we wish for the continuation of this harmony and tolerance in the country.”

The minister of Tourism and Culture also joined the previous speaker to thank the Fellowship for this recognition, stating that the award citation resonates the achievements of the Gambian leader. The country, she said has a quantum leap in terms of economic development, access to health care delivery, access to education, religious harmony, amongst a host of others.

The minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Fatou Lamin Faye, also thanked the Fellowship for the award, while harping on the strides made by the leadership. Minister Faye argued that The Gambia, though small in terms of size has a lot of lessons to offer to other countries in terms of the peaceful co-existence and the religious tolerance in the country.

In a brief statement at the occasion, the president of the Pastors Intercessory Fellowship The Gambia, Reverend Dohn Augustine Bernards, said the selection of President Jammeh was thoroughly scrutinized among his fellow African leaders, but he [Jammeh] eventually fulfilled the criterion set for the award.

“We are following what is here and outside. When the election comes, people would campaign to vote for them saying I will do this and that. But after their election, they will only think about their own welfare and not the welfare of their people. We checked everything, went through the internet, through reports, and we found out that the love, the caring and the heart the president has for his people is totally different from what other African leaders have in their minds,” he stated, while congratulating the Gambian leader for emerging as the “Best African President 2010-2011”.

He then pledged their continuous commitment to pray for the president, his government and the country for more prosperity.
