The Chosen One? Now that's quite something. A new title perhaps? it should be added to the litany of titles I guess. Recently, another unchosen one - eager to please the Fropessor - claimed that even God is a Politician. And now it's the Chosen One. Talk about the origins of blasphemy. Thankfully, naming something doesn't necessarily translate into the true essence of that thing. Sad situation indeed.

Thanks for sharing Bro Fankung.

The chosen one: A special poem for President Jammeh

Doudou Bami Jagne of Sahel Bank (Gambia Limited), has written a special poem dedicated to President jammeh entitled "The Chosen One".

Below we reproduce the poem as submited to the Daily Observer by mr jagne himself.

The chosen one
Over the plains- unattended;
Over the – river uncharted
Over hard-ship overwhelming
O-ur Gallant men descended

So young – in age they were
Their brav-ery, a great wonder
Their young lives put in danger
To save (our) beloved Gambia

Our pride we did restore
And our dignity that was plundered
With new seeds we ploughed the plains
Ignorance and hunger put asunder

The moment of truth is here
And we bear witness without fear
That God’s will on earth be done
For He appointed us, a Chosen One

Alsaamadeh, Gambian unite
Let us work for our prosperity
All for One, And One for All
Under the colour of Red, Blue and Green
One for All, and All for one
To uphold our sovereignty

Narrative
This bears reference to the large scale abandonment of agri/acqua culture, the traditional mainstay of the Gambian economy, resulting from failed development policies that did not ensure an equitable distribution of the national wealth, thus causing a massive rural-urban drift. Thirty years of failed policies, poor and severely limited access to health, education, scholarship, etc, indeed caused overwhelming hardship and deepening poverty. Nepotism and favoritism there had a visitation which descended on the Gambian people.

Because of the prolonged entrenchment of the system, fear continued to grip the nation until a few gallant, brave men in uniform who had sworn to defend the motherland, put their lives at great risk and came to the rescue.

Although young in age, their vision was indeed, exemplary, for in less than two years of their advent, signs of important and long-awaited development started to emerge. In record time, the Chosen One successfully transformed The Gambia into a model economy emulated by nation as big and small in Africa, as Gambia experienced development never achieved in the thirty years of the previous regime, earning her the acclamation as the Bastion for Africa’s integration.

Alas! A new dawn was born and Gambians for once, became audacious to hope. And true to its calling, a New Gambia emerged where the distinction of class and race is forever expunged and Gambians became one family, unity and one destiny.

For this wonderful new life, we give thanks to Allah and praise the Almighty for He appointed for us the Chosen One,  Africa’s strong man and new hope for the redemption of our lost glory: Africa, get ready; listen to his clarion call for he will lead the next revolution- The total and true independence of our Dear continent.
