Another boost for APRC campaign trail

Monday, November 21, 2011
The Ministry of Petroleum in collaboration with the Gambia National Petroleum Company last Friday donated  700 T-shirts to the APRC party towards the campaign for the 2011 presidential election.

The T-shirts were received on behalf of the national coordinating committee by the vice president and minister of Women’s Affairs, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, at State House. Presenting the items, Fafa Sanyang, the commissioner for Petroleum Exploration and Production at the Ministry of Petroleum, explained that his Ministry donated 1700 T-shirts towards the campaign.

He explained that out of that, they earlier sent 1000 T-shirts to the officials during their campaign in CRR. “So we are here to present the remaining 700 T-shirts today and the move is our contribution towards the forthcoming election,” he added. He prayed that peace and stability continue in the country and promised that they will continue to rally behind President Jammeh. Sanyang also spoke briefly about the numerous developments they have registered as a company such as the establishment of fuelling stations across the country. “We are now building five fuelling stations in the upcountry and we will continue to do more,” he disclosed.

Fatou Lamin Faye, the minister of Basic and Secondary Education, thanked GNPC and the Ministry of Petroleum for the move, which she described as timely and worthy.  She disclosed that recently, due to popular demand, they were inundated with requests for more T-shirts at the national bureau. She said this shows the love the people have for President Jammeh.

The Basic and Secondary minister promised that the T-shirts will be put into good use, while assuring the donors of government’s full time support at all times. Receiving the items, VP Njie-Saidy also thanked the two institutions for what she called their ‘timely and laudable contribution’ towards the APRC campaign. She hailed the donor Ministry, and further said that they are beginning to see quality in services of the petroleum sector.

VP Njie-Saidy added: “We are beginning to see more serious investors in exploration as well. We value that and today as a result of GNPC entering the market, we have seen the services improving. Whatever GNPC produces, another one replicates. So this is what we want and in the final analysis, customers win. This is what the government wants.”

She then thanked them on behalf of the government saying there is brighter future for the energy, petroleum and indeed other sectors in the country.
