Thanx Demba for sharing Jollofnews.
I take this opportunity to share my views on the discussion subject.

To begin, I declare my alignment with Baboucar Ceesay and Alieu Darboe and I expand on that agreement a bit without repeating what the two gentlemen have shared already.

Gambian Online or e-newspapers exist because
1. The Gambia government and Yahya have professed their disdain and outright hatred for all online newspapers bar-none. It has become a matter of defiance for Gambians to set up e-newspapers or e-media. This is because e-property is outside the control or influence of governments in the main and if the host government is also hostile to Freedom of expression and association for religion and industry, Gambians in other more democratic nations can set up online newspapers to satisfy the information and entertainment components of citizens' lives. Registration would corale these free-spirits under the same shackles, the avoidance of which necessitated their establishment in the first place. Therefore, registration of Gambian e-newspapers or e-media with the Yahya and APRC government is OUT of THE QUESTION and it will tantamount to SUICIDE.

2. Besides the oppressive nature of Yahya and his government and their avowed hatred for Gambian e-media, there is also a matter of non-INDEPENDENCE of the AG chambers. It is unhealthy for any business to REGISTER with the AG chambers of any nation. The registration of companies and businesses should flow directly from a presumed INDEPENDENT judiciary. That is how democracy envisaged it because it is assumed that in a democracy, there is a separation of powers and cordons for that separation that must not be breached. We have seen the AG chambers and Yahya's judiciary railroad ordinary Gambian and foreign business persons in extortion and corruption. Until Gambia registers companies or businesses via an INDEPENDENT NON-NIGERIAN judiciary, NO SANE PERSON or BUSINESS should consider doing business in GAMBIA. This is why I do not flinch much when Yahya and his judiciary dispossess idiot businessmen whose sole motivation is to exploit the stupidity of Yahya and his government, only they fail to assess the criminal qualities of same.

3. I think Gambian e-media are best advised to form a Gambia e-newspaper Association/Fraternity. Then they should set up a registration mechanism to that fraternity which will represent them to the GPU-Main. I was going to say Gambian e-media should register with the GPU-Main but on second thought that will not be healthy simply because GPU-Main is also at the mercy of the same Yahya and APRC gang and they are held hostage in Gambia. Further, GPU-Main has its own in-built incompetences and deficiencies. The Gambian e-media fraternity can work with GPU-Main however to hold them accountable and to help in its more healthful development. I have read some of the commenters on Jollofnews share that registration with Yahya's AG chambers will help improve professionalism and ethics in journalism. Where are these people from?? Talk about growing in the belly of the beast?? More than likely you will be absorbed in the Beast's bosom and become part of it. Gambians don't negotiate with terrorists is all I have to say. Besides, the e-media can better improve on professionalism and ethics in a peer-fraternity. If the Gambian e-media register with either Yahya's AG bosom or the GPU-Main, that will be their premature death.

Haruna. Thanx again Demba for sharing.

Subject: [G_L] Gambian Journalists Discussed Faith of Online Newspapers

For the first time, GPU and Gambian journalists on the ground have acknowledged the crucial role that online papers are playing in Gambia's socio and political discourse...

As a result discussions were held on this subject matter. The discussions according to the prominent Jollofnews, were centered around the question on whether Gambian online newspapers should be registered with the AG Chambers as legal entities.

This is a very interesting discussion and am sure those operating online papers in the Diaspora would have plenty to say about this.... Check the link below and see what the Journalists think about this subject.
