[Another variance with Libya is that unlike Ben Ali and Mubarak, Gaddafi's sons virtually had their own military wings which made it easy for them to import mercenaries from Serbia, North Mali, CHad, and Mauritania, outfit them with Libyan Army uniforms, equip them with state of the art weapons, and use Libya army planes to bomb opposition positions. This is what turned the tides against the opposition advance. Most of Libya's regular army was switching allegiance. That was when the son's military wing had to hire soldiers of fortune. If you look at the Libya military that is conducting this exercise, it is full of foreign soldiers. It is not readily apparent because they have on Libyan army uniforms and are led by Libyan military officials from one wing.]

Well said on this Bro Haruna. Be that you are so familiar with the area, I couldn't agree with more.

[I still advise Gaddafi's sons to plead with their father to step down and apologize to Libyans for the atrocities he committed against them.]

If the sons to the dictator are with him, I doubt they will have the urge to say that. Dictatorship means to hooke their dirty tentacles to power, 'till-death-do-us-part'.

Gadhafi's coming back to full force, what a horror!

Thanks

Demba,

The demonstrations in Libya were unarmed movements before Seif Gaddafi's speech. In that speech, he basically threatened the demonstrators with civil war. He explained that everyone in Libya will be armed and they will start killing each other like chickens. He was alluding to mercenaries Gaddafi would be importing. In Egypt or Tunisia, mercenaries were not imported. You notice also that Before Bahrain imported forces from other neighbors, the unarmed civillian demonstration was looking like it would be successful. The government even yielded some concessions.

Plus, in as much as international goodwill for the demonstrators in Libya was concerned, you will recall that the natural disasters in New Zealand, Bolivia, and now Japan were so extreme and epic that the man-made demonstrations in Libya could not compete for equal attention.

Another variance with Libya is that unlike Ben Ali and Mubarak, Gaddafi's sons virtually had their own military wings which made it easy for them to import mercenaries from Serbia, North Mali, CHad, and Mauritania, outfit them with Libyan Army uniforms, equip them with state of the art weapons, and use Libya army planes to bomb opposition positions. This is what turned the tides against the opposition advance. Most of Libya's regular army was switching allegiance. That was when the son's military wing had to hire soldiers of fortune. Do not be discouraged by the seeming triumph of Gaddafi and his militia. It will be temporal victory, if it succeeds. There is an unseemly surprise lurking.

I still advise Gaddafi's sons to plead with their father to step down and apologize to Libyans for the atrocities he committed against them.

Haruna. If Gaddafi succeeds, Yahya is history. Perhaps that is the only light at the end of the tunnell. Yahya's latest "rapprochements" with everybody under the sun (Press etc.) has that in the background. Even though I'd like to see Yahya's behind NOW, that is not worth the lives of Libyans.

I have been thinking hard and comparing the Libyan uprising to the Tunisian and Egyptian successful revolution that toppled their dictators.

However, closely looking at what is happening in Libya and the West slowly turning its ears and eyes away from the Libyan situation, I think the uprising may have made some serious mistakes.

The Libyan uprising is different because it is an arm rebellion. Compared to what went on in Egypt and Tunesia it was ordinary citizens armed only with their courage and determination to toppled the government that took to the streets peacefully and demanded the removal of their dictators. Yes, so many people died in Egypt and Tunisia unfortunately, but the world couldn't turn its back on unarmed civilians being mascred. It was the center of media attention unlike Libya.

Libya seems different becasue the resistance mistakenly took up arms giving the brutal dictator a reason to defend itself and go after ordinary people resisting the dictator. As a result they couldn't convince more citizens to get to the streets.

Something deadly is happening there and am affraid it may have been all a big mistake. I hope and pray that am wrong and wish the Libyan people well.

What is your take??
