Subject: End the Ban on Travel to Cuba

Ask President Obama to support lifting the counter-productive travel ban on Cuba.

Dear Peter R.,
For fifty years the U.S. government has been attempting to isolate, undermine, and force change upon the Cuban government - five decades of failed policies that have accomplished little if anything for either America's or Cuba's people.
As a country, we've shot ourselves in the foot by restricting travel, trade, and development with such a close neighbor for half a century. But some bold leadership by President Obama could turn things around.
Right now, Cuba is the only country in the world that the U.S. government declares "off limits" to American travelers. Americans are free to travel all over the world to countries with deplorable human rights records, but only Cuba is a no-go.
It's time for a new approach to Cuba policy - and President Obama can lead the way, starting with an end to the travel ban.
Tell President Obama you support lifting the counter-productive travel ban for Americans who want to visit Cuba.
Cuba could be a key partner for the U.S. and more free exchange between Americans and Cubans could encourage democratic reforms and more freedom on the communist island.
It's true that international human rights organizations still condemn the Cuban regime for limiting basic human rights and for imprisoning dissidents and rights advocates - but in 50 years U.S. policies haven't improved things for Cuba's people. So why keep pursuing a failed strategy?
Only an act of Congress can formally end the ban on travel to Cuba for all U.S. citizens - but action by President Obama can create critical momentum. He can loosen restrictions on "people-to-people" exchanges between the U.S. and Cuba. That would allow universities, sports teams, museums and chambers of commerce to freely share expertise and ideas - a solid step forward to dialing back the travel ban.
Urge the White House and the President to take action to open up travel with Cuba - and help finally turn the page on 50 years of failed policy.
Today's Cuba is not the Cuba of 50 years ago. It's time to replace our dinosaur policies left over from the cold war with a strategy that moves our two countries toward a more respectful, humane relationship.
Thanks for taking action,
