Bro LJD,

Where did you get that from? I mean SHEPAD, pronounced the same as “Shepherd.” Can you please give YAJJJ, Dr, Professor, aka ABCDE…Z..0123… another name because I do not approve of it, & be warned. So much for humor…

Sadly, it is as Baldeh said that Masanneh will just follow the footsteps of his predecessors, and I can imaginarily see the branches and leaves of his tree canopy wilting to death…and I held onto that instinct, thus: “Wait-a-minute! Don’t kill that soul!” Well, well, we can’t recover spilt milk. True.

"And yes, Lamin, where are all our intelligentsia?"Galleh

Mawdo Galleh,

I have shared that as well. It looks like the people either doesn’t care, or they don’t want to be bothered. Others are on the benches of neutrality, so if the option of joining Jammeh is at hand, they will not have any history to count against them. Others might have lost confidence and hope in the system. Others just choose to hang loose, low profile, if you like…till God knows when. Others like Fankung, of course chilling in the US are simply supporting the professor.  For those of us, we rely on the many who are active, and are interested in changing the unfavorable situation, whether they have the paper degrees or are just armed with courage and ambition to fight and restore democracy and hope. To mildly put it, I would rather have to deal with the later than the formers. Period.

Any ways, the train has already departed…we are either on board or we are left behind. I personally choose to be on board. & I say good job to all those who choose to board, and safe ride to the top of the golden mountain...we will get there someday.

Really Lamin? Was Antouman so clumsy that he counld not get the order of titles right and the furufusu so agitated he ordered Antouman to wrap up his speech? Must have been quite a spectacle, but of course totally within the bounds of imagination, considering the great depth of His Emptyllency's painful craving for visibility.

And yes, Lamin, where are all our intelligentsia? Why are they so silent about the Gambian situation? With the notable exception of Drs. Saine and Jaiteh, almost all of our learned folks maintain a stony silence that can only be matched by their attendant stony (teary-eyed?) gaze upon our national predcament. A sad situation indeed.

Word has it Yankuba Touray got into trouble for truncating the title and calling the Professor by the abbreviated name "President Jammeh" during a 'meet the people tour'.

I was recently watching a video of a September 09 meeting between His Excellency SHEPAD A J J Jammeh and his New York supporters during which several struggled with the formal order of titles. The highlight was of course the rather pathetic performance of Antouman Saho, Yankuba Touray's inarticulate successor as APRC national mobiliser. The man was an embodiment of clumsiness, and when he could not get the order of titles right, the Professor was so agitated he ordered Antouman to wrap up his speech.

I therefore accept your contention that "newspaper editors, radio and television presenters could land themselves in a heap of trouble for improperly addressing His Excellency SHEPAD Yahya AJJ Jammeh".

About lawyers, I read your rather interesting letter to Amie Bensouda, and viewed from a strict theoretical prism, I am in agreement with the spirit of your thoughts. However, I am curious as to whether, in your view, there is any difference between lawyers on the one hand, and Gambia's historians, economists, medical doctors, accountants, engineers, philosophers, IT professionals, educationists, and other 'intelligentsia' on the national issue of the rather appalling human rights regime in the country. Asked differently, why lawyers, and not central bankers?

LJD,

That's what lawyers are for - to help us navigate the treacherous waters of Dictatorships.  Thanks.  We are joking about it but newspaper editors, radio and television presenters could land themselves in a heap of trouble for improperly addressing His Excellency SHEPAD Yahya AJJ Jammeh.

Kejau,

You know this better than any one of us that the good Lt. Gen. Kinteh will soon be joining Lang Tombong at Mile II.  So no amount of politiking will save him from the wrath of Alhaji Sheikh Professor Dr. did I leave out any title Yahya AJJ Jammeh.

In an unprecedented move, Lt. Gen. Masanneh Kinteh was last week reported to have met and discussed state security issues with member of the ruling APRC party officials in Basse on his first tour of the country as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). The Masanneh_Kinteh new CDS, in a move, many security commentators observe, was to show loyalty to the Commander in chief (CIC), Yaya Jammeh, who has fired and hired over 10 CDS many of which were jailed or exiled in his 15 years rule of terror.. Readers will recall that the new CDS's predecessor, Major General Lang Tombong Tamba was arrested and held in communicado since November last year without any charges being files as gainst him.
Many pundits reaching this paper remember the close ties between the jailed ex-CDS and the head of state as he was said to have single handedly foiled the alleged coup plot of his predecessor, Colonel Ndure Cham and was the first GAF officer to be decorated general, ever. Many see the new commanders actions as a measure to show the Oga in Kanilia that the new CDS is ready to serve, even it means stooping low to meet local party politicians instead of being neutral as expected of armed forces officers, much more a CDS.. Other contacting this paper express dismay at the actions of the CDS, who many quiped should have been neutral and not seen to be visibly taking sides in party politics, especially as the state continues to refuse permits to UDP rallies and the APRC is free to hold rallies without permits. .

Why not every 100 years?  Only a President like Jammeh tolerates an illeterate and embarrassingly stupid National Assembly member like this Colley fellow.

Borry suggests presidential elections every ten years

Monday, 01 February 2010
The National Assembly member for Foni Jarrol District, Borry Colley has suggested that presidential elections in The Gambia be held every ten years instead of five years.

He argued that the development successes registered by the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh are enough for Gambians to appreciate him, and for him to continue leading the country. Colley was speaking recently in Kalagi village, Foni Jarrol District during a meeting with the national mobiliser of the APRC, Yankuba Colley, as part of the latter’s  nationwide tour with political authorities and party supporters.

Colley defended his proposition saying “in every part of the country, President Jammeh has initiated a development which was not possible in the past years”.  He pointed out that the construction of first class roads, health facilities and boosting of  the education sector are also justifications to back his proposition.

He said they have nothing else to say in his own district of Foni Jarrol but to thank President Jammeh and to rally behind him and the APRC at all times. Colley used the occasion to call on Gambians to vote massively  for President Jammeh in the 2011 presidential election. He finally assured that the people of Foni Jarrol will always maintain their loyalty to the country’s leadership.
