Conference

Breast Cancer Recovery plans to sponsor the
tenth annual Sharing the Knowledge:
Resources for Recovery Conference, November 14,
2009 in Madison. The day-long
conference features experts sharing information
on recent breast cancer research, new breast
cancer management techniques and survivorship
resources. The Sharing the Knowledge Conference
is designed for breast cancer survivors,
caregivers, and health care professionals to
stay connected, educated and empowered.
Registration fee is $35 and scholarships are

Governor Proclaims October Komen
for the Cure Breast Cancer Awareness

Wisconsin's First Lady,
Jessica Doyle, read the proclamation along with
invited guests including representatives from
Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin's office, Senators
Feingold and Kohl, as well as Sherriff Dave
Mahoney, Police Chiefs Noble Wray, Charles Tubbs
and Sue Riesling, along with several other
legislators.

on Thursday, October 22, 2009
from 1pm - 4pm at the Wisconsin State Capitol.
Join survivors, friends and advocates from
around the state in legislative visits in the
Wisconsin Capitol, urging continued support in
the effort to find the cures for breast cancer,
encouraging early detection and screening,
and supporting breast cancer patients, survivors
and families.

Fireplace Folks Wants to Hear Your
Story!
Calling all Survivors, write to the
Fireplace Folks and tell them about your journey
and how you are surviving. They will pick the
most compelling story and give away a complete
Morso wood stove and install it by Christmas
this year. The Fireplace Folks at Great American
Chimney & Masonry Inc. is located at 1902 S.
Stoughton Road. They will also be doing a
special promotion. For every Morso, Valor, RSF,
St. Croix, and Mendota stove or fireplace sold
in October a portion of the sales will be
donated to the Madison Affiliate of Susan G.
Komen for the Cure. The Fireplace Folks will
match the manufacturer's donation. Do not
miss their Tent Sale October 15 - 17,
2009.
Update on the Komen Race for the
Cure® in Iraq
The 5K in Iraq was a HUGE
hit!!! They broke the record for
number of registered participants with a total
of 172. There were so many people who were
so very grateful for the chance to
participate.

Women Rock for the Cure -

In honor of Breast Cancer
Awareness Month the Madison Affiliate of Susan
G. Komen for the Cure® will
host it's Second Annual Women Rock for the Cure
event.
Starting Monday, October 19,
2009 the capitol will shine pink for
two weeks in honor of breast cancer awareness
month. Once
again several area venues are showing their
support by participating in Women Rock for the
Cure.
The Majestic will
kick off the week with a special performance by
Mindy Smith with special guest Erick
Baker on Tuesday, October 20 at 7:30
pm. Tickets are available at www.majesticmadison.com. A
portion of the ticket sales will be
donated to Komen Madison.
Participating Dane County Culver's
restaurants will be donating 10% of sales on
Wednesday, October 21 to Komen
Madison. While there, be sure to try their
special Flavor of the Day - Pink Ribbon
Rasberry.
On Friday, October 23,
2009, several Madison music venues will
participate in Women Rock for the Cure to
support the Madison Affiliate of Susan G. Komen
for the Cure and its effort to create a world
without breast cancer.
Each location will be offering various
specials and donating a portion of their
proceeds to help end breast cancer forever.
Seventy-five percent of the funds
raised stay in Madison and Dane County to
support breast health and breast cancer programs
primarily for our un-served and under-served
populations. Make an Impact during
breast cancer awareness month! Gather together
with family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors
and participate in Women Rock for the Cure by
choosing one of the listed location's and enjoy
an evening or afternoon together. Thank you

pink lids will be in local stores from
early September until the end of October
2009. Yoplait will donate 10 cents per
lid up to $1.5 million to Susan G. Komen for the

December 31, 2009! Lids are
tracked by zip code so all the lids coming from
zip codes in our Affiliate area will generate
funds directly for Komen Madison. Our goal is to
collect 52,000 lids from our area!

apply for community grants for fiscal year
2010-11. Non profit organizations located
in or providing services to persons located in
Dane
County are eligible to apply.
Projects must be specific to breast health and
breast
cancer. Applications must be
postmarked by January 15, 2010. The
