We Mourn Senator Sir Edward Kennedy

senator.Sir.Edward.Moore.KennedyTuesday night, I tossed and turned, in hopeless quest for repose. Then I sat on the chair and began reading. It was not significant what I was reading because I can now remmember none of it. It was effort to fall asleep. It was not to be. An imperious vide overcame me the like of which I had not experienced since the passing of Paul Wellstone and my father. Ecumenical but foreboding. It was now the small hours of wednesday and I impulsively turned the news on the radio. Senator Edward Kennedy had left us.

Edward.Moore.Kennedy.88.HarvardAlthough I was not surprised, I was shocked and traumatised to believe the story. My alacrity was suspect. So I turned the television on. It was showing breaking news and three police officers stood guard at the Hyannis Port compound entrance. Indeed Senator Edward Kennedy had left us. With the story confirmed, my peremptory listlessness stayed with me until 10:00 AM when I dragged myself to make my 11:00 AM meeting in Atlanta.

Edward.Kennedy.HyannisPortUpon my return home, and even though I received several email memoriams, I still could not bring myself to accept the Senator’s passing. Everything around my home reverberrated with the news and television coverage. I maintained my ambivalent halo. And it has just now left me.

Sen.Edward.Kennedy.GoodFridaySenator Edward Kennedy, like his brothers before him, is one of those rare gifts of God to humanity, who remained stoic in otherwise certain abjection, steadfast in conviction amid Pessimisa’s lethargy, with resolute virtue even as he knocks on death’s door, having sojourned in many a despair’s cobblestone alleys, and all the while bringing joy to the multitudes. From this I reserve comfort that the other side of death’s door shall never again be uneventful. May God accord him grace and venerable repose.

Sen.Edward.KennedyIn honour of Senator Edward Kennedy, we will re-name The GDP’s prospective Nyakoi Vision Institute,

The Senator Edward Kennedy Nyakoi Vision Institute

(Nyakoi is Mandingo for Clear Eyes)
