Morey: I also have a computer (Dell) with realtek "on board" sound chip brought out to a jack panel exactly as you describe. The jack in the lower right corner is the line-in jack. Jumping to the upper row and moving right to left: the jack above the line-in jack is the sub-woofer jack, to the left of that is the 5.1 surround speakers jack, and the jack in the upper left-hand corner accomodates two additional speakers for a 7.1 channel system. Bottom line, unless you're using your computer as a mini-home theater system, the line-in jack is the only one of real importance. Glad to have been able to provide this information since I know what a pain it is to have a new anything without the requisite sighted assistance to become acquainted with all its features, capabilities, etc. John ----- Original Message ----- From: "Morey Worthington" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2009 6:36 PM Subject: [VICUG-L] Sound Card Plugs Hello all, I have a Acer desktop computer that came with a RealTechsound card. As of now I do not have any sighted help to help or I would not be asking this question. There are 6 input jacks on the back of the computer for the card. There are 2 rows across with 3 jacks each. Does anyone using this card know what goes in each jack hole? Going from left to right, looking at the back of the computer from the back, in the bottom row there is a mic jack, then a speaker jack, then an open one. What might that open one do, along with the others in the top row? Thanks, Morey Worthington VICUG-L is the Visually Impaired Computer User Group List.
