I can only tell you that Jews are supposed to be buried with their heads eastward [and feet westward].  Except in Israel, where the head is toward Jerusalem, so that when the Messiah comes, all the dead Jews can burrow their way (head first, underground) to Jerusalem for the resurrection.  I think--but am not certain-- that when the burial takes place in Jerusalem, the head is supposed to be in the direction of the Temple Mount.
