Hi Bill,
Thanks for the nice welcome!

The apartment antenna problem was one I worried a lot about. I don't have a
balcony and the screen in my window does not come out. I was basically
stuck with something indoors.

The one good thing is that my studio apartment window is large. It's 12
feet long and 5 feet high, I think. So I got some wire (18 gauge Radio
Shack hookup wire) and cut it to a quarter wave length of 40 meters and
taped this around the glass of the window with clear packaging tape. It fit
just about perfectly around the inner frame of the window, though a little
extra sticks out at the end. That is my antenna wire.

I then got a roll of speaker wire and cut one wire to a quarter wave length
of 40 meters and the second wire to a quarter wave of 20 meters. The
counterpoise pair runs along the baseboard of the apartment where it won't
be in anyone's way.

I run the antenna wire and the counterpoise wires into the back of my MFJ
941e tuner and I am ready to go! Like I say, I am not sure how well it will
work for longer distances, but for local contacts, it seems to do ok.

There's other solutions, too, but this is the one I am trying out for now.
It was cheap, at least. I think the wire cost me a total of $15. The tuner
was expensive, but I will no doubt use that for years to come with a whole
variety of antennas.

Feel free to let me know if you have questions. Thanks!
