Let me chew on that a bit. No promises.

Rudy

I know this isn’t up anyone’s alley on this site, but maybe you all know someone. I have a customer looking for a 600KW natural gas genset to rent, if you have a contact I can get in touch with it would be greatly appreciated. They are willing to pay all freight for an out of town unit.

Jim,

So good to hear from you and with such a positive report. Like I said in the last email, just going through what Ike had left when it got to Ohio was enough. We still have over 200,000 without power. Ours was only down about 9 hours which isn’t that uncommon for our power co-op. I thought you might enjoy the headline I saw today: “Bush visits Texas; Galvestonians urged to leave.” That’s how I’d feel if I knew he was coming. Good luck with that!

Welcome back.

Rudy

To everyone

Thank you. We are OK, everyone is fine. FYI, I have been preparing for this for years with two generators, gas cans out the wazu, ect., so unlike the folks you see waiting in line, we were as ready as we could be. If you live on the gulf coast, you are going to get hit sometime. I have showed up at work, hence the e-mail. This morning as I was getting ready to leave the house there was a knock at the door. My very good friend Bennett (we are on Bar-B-Que teams together) was standing there. He works for a high voltage company that contract to Center Point Energy. His company issues areas to work on randomly, damn if he didn’t get assigned ours. I told him what I had found while “running the lines”. We should have power today. Being on the southwest side of Houston we were relatively unscathed. The family is safe, my neighbors are safe, at the house is intact. All of my friends appear to be OK. The worse damage is on the eastside of town, and north into the piney woods. Gas is hard to find, but it is out there, and if you think out of the box like we did, there is plenty 30-40 miles southwest. George stopped in this morning for a look see, I’m sure we will all feel better after he’s said the usual B.S. (and then left town). I can’t say enough about Mayor Bill White of Houston, he has his act together, as most of us do. We are coming back to life, we are not N.O...

More Later, and photos

Rudy,

Yes, everyone related to me is fine. Don't know much about any others,
though. Heard last night. Phone lines are out. No power, not much
damage. A bit nerved out but making do. My brother called while out
looking for gas for generators -- seems stations are either empty of
fuel or closed. Invalided stepfather is in a bit of a fix as they are
moving him out of the nursing home they took him to because there is no
electricity, but he is moving back home where oddly there is.

Best,
