][< asks:

Is Ohio a SHOW-ME state?

Sort of, but what's a real pain in the arse is the fact that it's a HOME
RULE state which means each county has a county engineer who is elected
beauty pageant style rather than being hired for their qualifications. The
counties own and maintain their roads, except the state routes, including
the bridges. There lies the ultimate and sadly terminal fate of all of the
covered bridges. The county engineers, with the exception of John Shmollen
in Ashtabula County, don't know shit from Shinolea about covered bridge
conservation so some unbelievably horrific things happen to them.

Glad I got THAT off my chest.

Better get back to skimming!
