Sankareh, Editor- In-Chief According to our State House operative Kissy Kissy Mansa, Mr. Lamin Sanneh a reputable civil engineer, a career civil servant and erstwhile Permanent Secretary passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) early this morning under mysterious conditions. Sanneh, until his one-and-half-year incommunicado detention at the Mile II Central Prisons (Africa's Hell On Earth) was Permanent Secretary, Department of State for Health & Infrastructure. In 2006, Sanneh took two days off work and flew to Dakar, Senegal to see off his daughter a student in a Canadian university. On his return to Banjul, the unassuming Permanent Secretary was arrested at the foot of the aircraft at Yundum and whisked to Mile II Prisons where laments Kissy "he was detained incommunicado under grueling and very dehumanizing conditions for six months." According to Kissy, while at Mile II, Lamin Sanneh endured both physical and mental torture during interrogation by the NIA; his passport and academic documents were confiscated. He was discharged and immediately dragged before the courts charged with bogus allegations of lethargy. Following numerous appearances, the Magistrate for want of prosecution quashed the case but Sanneh could never leave The Gambia nor take up employment as the NIA still have custody of his documents. Early this week reports Kissy, Lamin Sanneh complained of stress and general body pains and was hospitalized at the RVH. In the end says Kissy, Sanneh could not talk and following a brain surgery, he succumbed to death this morning. According to Kissy Lamin Sanneh's case mirrors the lamentable tale of the average Gambian detainee; Gambians are generally a very proud lot and remain discreet about their ordeals in the hands of the notorious NIA. Says Kissy, no one returns from Mile II with a sound mind and body especially, after a visit to the NIA. I therefore, suggests Kissy, "that Gambians ensure their detained relatives to undergo very intense physical and metal evaluations/tests once released from jail posted @ Friday, December 07, 2007 2:33 PM by egsankara いいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいい To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://listserv.icors.org/archives/gambia-l.html To Search in the Gambia-L archives, go to: http://listserv.icors.org/SCRIPTS/WA-ICORS.EXE?S1=gambia-l To contact the List Management, please send an e-mail to: [log in to unmask] いいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいい
