The main heat is provided with a central chimney system that has three flues. The main fire is in the central hearth which has a Rumford firebox designed by me and installed by Gabriel Orgrease. We heated all of October and most of November with the Rumford and on really cold nights (we've been down to six degrees one night) fired up either the Wil-Burt cabin heater in the basement or the top load Mohawk woodstove in the great room. By next winter that will be replaced with our Elmira wood fired cookstove. We're burning four to five chords in a season. It's very labor (or cost) intensive to live in a cold climate.
