RE: [BP] Rescuing Recess

Strange indeed!
My kids were not allowed to run on the playground during recess lest someone fall and scrape a knee. PLUS, no score keeping in kickball etc. And they want 8 year olds to concentrate in class? Oye! Sanity finally won and restrictions were loosened. They still periodically bring out a "stop light" during lunch when the kids talk too loud. If the red light goes on they can't talk at all. If one person does the whole table (40 or so kids) misses out on after lunch recess. Nuts!

Thinking of you Nyawkers as UPS just delivered a new bassoon bocal from a maker near Union Square.   Great bocal, but the real treat was the NY Times Metro Section wrapping paper.

What the heck is going on back there in the East!?!!?!?!

Here is a krinkled story from Connecticut about how activities like kick-ball and soccor are being banned during elementary school recesses in favour of non-contact jump ropes and hula hoops.   It says balls, tag and other contact games are being treated like controlled substances as too dangerous.   As a result of a protest campaign titled Rescuing Recess, 4th and 5th graders are sometimes allowed to play a modified version of kick-ball as long as a score is not kept.

Hard to fathom the dichotomy of messages coming across the Border these days!

1)  Adults are allowed to beat the crap out of their enemies as long as they think it is politically correct.
2)  Children are taught to not keep score.

We live in strange times.
