Kathy your not alone.  But I am one of those weird people that my blindness does not bother me.  I guess I just figured this is the way it is and just do what I can do.  I remember when my mom told me my sight was not like everyone elses.  I was so amazed I went outside and looked around and said.  Wow I am the only person that can see like this.  Of course I was really little.  I do have some dificulties but for some reason I don't really associate it with my sight.  I think I have had more of a time with my learning disability.  When I was working or in college I would get frustrated because of being slower than other and never being able ot get all straight A's  My one boss helped me thought she told me that employers weren't looking for straight A people but people like me because a straight A person is not all there.  And since that job and being a psycologist I have definately seen this to be true.  If  you have ever know a genous you will notice they may be acidemically smart but they are so smart they are stupid.
