These situations are difficult. The doctor may be operating with less that current information, or may be putting you in the statistical norm (a place where many of us in this list don't belong). That's not to say s/he is a bad GP/allergist - unless there are other indications that you're not being properly cared for. As was stated earlier, a challenge - possibly a double-blind one - with pure lactose versus pure protein could demonstrate that a different mechanism is operating. On the other hand, why put yourself through that agony just to prove to a doctor what mechanism is operating. If it hurts when you do that, don't do that!
