<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Thanks to all who responded about gluten free birth control. I have been taking Ortho Cyclen for 8 years and contacted the company the other day and one time they said it does not contain gluten, but unsure of cross contam. Another time I called them they said it was gluten free. Below is the responses I received. I think I will stick with Ortho Cyclen for the rest of the month and am thinking about switching to Yasmin soon, which is gf. Thanks everyone! RESPONSES I RECEIVED: I have been using the ortho evra patch for a while now and really like it. I do feel better about not taking another pill, plus I don't get the side effects that I got from birth control pills (ie. nausea, vomiting). I wouldn't worry. MOST pharmaceutical companies say the same thing now. It's GF. Hi, I react to everything, including corn (except rices), and used Necon 1/35-28 with no problems. Best wishes. I take Ortho Novum and the generic Necon and do fine. Pam, this is the line that virtually every major drug manufacturer puts out about their products these days. Mostly it means nothing, and mostly drugs are safely GF. My understanding is that the reason is that the big drug companies "job" out so many of their drugs to smaller labs, they actually do not have any control of what may or may not be in those drugs. It is all just a big cover-their-asses legal kind of thing. The GOOD news is that almost no prescription drugs, these days, contain gluten -- or so I've been told by people who know quite a lot about this. I have also been told (and it has also been my own experience) that a lot of the smaller labs that are now producing generic drugs actually DO the entire manufacturing process in-house. Thus, they are often able to tell the consumer whether or not those drugs are GF -- and, importantly, are WILLING to provide the consumer this information. Just because they make generic drugs does not mean that they are inferior manufacturers -- sometimes quite the opposite. I don't take birth control drugs, so know nothing about what's out there. However, if you can find a drug that is generic, and contact THAT manufacturer, you might get a far more satisfying answer. (And your drug will be cheaper, too!) I am not a medical person -- so take what I say with a grain of salt. But you might still want to check out what I've been told. Hi, not sure if you need to be on the pill... but if not and you are a good candidate for it, an IUD (intra-uterine-device) is a gluten-free long-term method of birth control. * Send administrative questions to mailto:[log in to unmask] * Archives are at: Http://Listserv.icors.org/SCRIPTS/WA-ICORS.EXE?LIST=CELIAC
