I have used File and Settings Transfer Wizard when replacing PCs within our building. Since both machines are on the same network, I just used a network drive accessible from both. You can also use any removable media or drive. I would think that a virus could be transferred as well. Best to make sure the PC is clean first. I understand that I need a Null Model Cable or Serial File Transfer Cable in order to then use the File and Transfer Wizard in XP. > > I've looked on the internet and there are so many I wondered if anyone could give me some advice. Ideally I would like to be able to do this from any computer (i.e. with either with 9pin or 25pin socket). Is it possible to get a 9pin to 9pin with perhaps an adapter for the old 25 type). > > Do you have any advice on speed and ease of use? > > One other query is that the friend I hope to do this for has a virus on one computer that would need registry editing in order to fix. What are the chances of transferring the virus to the new computer, if I transfer all his Word and Excel documents over to the new system? I don't know what the virus is, because when I try to do a scan, the old computer crashes. > > Hope you can help! > > > Christine Wakeham > I The NOSPIN Group is now offering Free PC Tech support at our newest website: http://freepctech.com ************************************************** NOTICE OF CONFIDENTIALITY THIS DOCUMENT IS INTENDED ONLY FOR THE USE OF THE ENTITY TO WHICH IT IS ADDRESSED AND MAY CONTAIN INFORMATION THAT IS PRIVILEGED, CONFIDENTIAL AND EXEMPT FROM DISCLOSURE UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.
