<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi! Just a quick little question. We all know that zonulin is a protein that regulates the tight junctions. We also know that we celiacs apparently produce too much zonulin, which increases our intestinal permeability; i.e., opens the gates to the tight junctions. My question is simply does any one know what "good" purpose is served by zonulin? Another way of saying this, is why do we want our tight junctions to open in the first place (in any healthy person without an autoimmune disorder)? Thanks!
