good morning, listmates,

As suggested by my gastroenterologist, I've been taking supplemental
Niacin, usually from Freeda. However, I recently bought some Solgar
after satisfying myself that it is a gluten-free brand.

However, the Solgar Niacin left me with small bumps and some larger
hives down my legs and arms, very itchy there and elsewhere on my
body, a DH-like outbreak on the fleshy exterior of my hands below the
little finger and then yesterday (Day 4) large blotchy red marks on
my inner thighs. Cortisone cream and Benedryl did nothing. Today,
(Day 5) the mess is finally subsiding and I am less itchy.

Given the Niacin flush, I suppose those bumps that look like heat
rash could, in fact, be heat rash. But lasting for five days? A
doctor friend of mine suggested I might be having an allergic
reaction to something in the compound, not gluten.

Anyway have definitive information? Could it be there's something in
Solgar preparations that's not good for Celiacs?

thanks,
Mary B.
