<<<Also, Windows cannot find "Internet Explorer " any longer , if that is
any help>>>

is this info from "find files folders" feature in 98se?

I would suggest you click start/settings/control panel/and double click "add/remove programs". Scroll down and see if internet explorer is listed and which version.IT MUST BE THERE because you can not uninstall even if you want to.all that will happen if you click "remove" is it will install a lower version than what is there.

regarding your problem of choosing connection options pl click in IE tools/internet options/connection. at the topyou will find a box with heading "dial up and virtual private networking" and your isp or name of connction will be listed. you will also find "add"/remove/ settings".
click on the settings tab and make sure there is no tick mark in "automatically detect settings and use automatic configuration script".if there is a tick mark click on it and it will be unchecked. click apply and then ok your way out.

do the same thing for "proxy server" if any.

then choose "never dial a connection" click apply then ok.

on a side note have you done any updates for IE and do you have the IE icon on the desk top?
