EASI (Equal Access to Software and Information) Activities for September

This newsletter has 4 items: 2 free, live Web conferences, a 4-part live fee-based Web conference series

and a special on The September courses.

(1)  September 13 Free Web conference Designing Multimedia Using Universal Design Principles
Presenter: Richard Banks

This hour-long presentation will provide an overview of simple and inexpensive tools to facilitate the

creation of several modes of streaming multimedia. It will also demonstrate the need to make such

multimedia accessible by adding synchronized captions and sometimes also audio descriptions. This

overview will focus on free and inexpensive software tools and demonstrate that anyone can make

streaming multimedia using audio, PowerPoint and video.  These live, interactive Web conferences

combine voice and text chat with the presenter pushing Web pages to support the presentation.

(For anyone who wants a detailed, step-by-step training with personal instruction and support, Dick will

also teach a 4-part, fee-based Web conference in late September and early October.

and information technology.  She is a lawyer and has consulted for the UN, the US government and

presented to many conferences of lawyers.

These live, interactive Web conferences combine voice and text chat with the presenter pushing Web

pages to support the presentation.

This overview of current legal events will be followed by a month-long online, fee-based course providing

the kind of details about the law that schools, colleges
and universities need to know.  This 4-week tuition-bearing course is scheduled for January 2006.  Watch

for follow-up announcements.

(3) Fee-based, 4-week Series providing Hands-on Learning on Streaming Multimedia
September 19, 26, Oct 3, 10
Presenter: Richard Banks

This series is based on using universal Design principles with Streaming Multimedia: audio, video,

PowerPoint and other common creation tools. It will provide
step--by-step, hands-on training giving participants actual experience creating accessible multimedia.

This will be the nearest thing possible to a live, face-to-face lab workshop.

The EASI Web conference series are designed to be interactive.  You can use either voice or text chat to

get support from other participants or from the presenter.  Between presentations, you can also use e-mail

to get help from the instructor.  Some learners work well independently and readily grasp technical

content.  Others like having the interactive support of other students and of a knowledgeable teacher.  If

you are the latter, EASI courses may be for you.  This fee-based course is $150 for 4 weeks.  There is a link

on the page below that takes you to a fuller description of this:
