Batches of Quaker, McCann's Irish Oats & Country Choice brands of oats were analyzed. All were contaminated at various levels - even from batch to batch, well above the international Codex limit for gluten free. It is not clear at this time whether immune responses occur from the protein structure of oats, cross-contamination or personal sensitivities. The only risk-free choice is elimination of oats. No national celiac support group is advocating the liberal use of oats at this time.
