For all those middle-aged female paleos who are having difficulty dropping the last 5-15 pounds despited being at ketosis level low-carb -- I hope the following helps. So far, I've dropped 5 pounds at the rate of about .5-1 pound per week by doing the following: 1.) Trying to stay as close to 50-60 grams of protein per day as opposed to eating until full. (This calculation would very depending upon a gal's ideal weight. It is based on approx. 1 gram of protein per kilogram of ideal body weight.) 2.) Omitting nuts. 3.) Not restricting fats including saturated fats. Added fats have been olive oil, coconut oil, butter (I know, not paleo -- but the only dairy I currently eat) 4.) Stop eating 3 hours before bedtime. Do not eat until totally stuffed -- try to eat just until satiated. 5.) Keep carbs very low -- only carb sources are non-starchy veggies, various varieties of seaweed -- kelp, wakame, nori, dulse and kombu are my favorites, and 1 small daily portion of berries or other low-sugar fruit. 6.) Exercise: Some days high intensity intervals; some days weight training (heavy weights, 8-10 reps, only 1-2 sets); some days long walks; some days sit on my derriere. Bottom line: mix it up and don't kill yourself. 7.) Beverages: Water (but I don't force down 8+ cups); espresso (I know, NOT paleo); assorted teas (generally green, oolong -- occasional black) I have a thyroid issue and the summer sunshine generally speeds up my metabolism -- so I want to see if this trend continues because of dietary changes or if it's just coinciding with the season change.
