Both the WebMD and Reuters Health sites report on a study in the current
issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine. This study shows that 1% of
post menopausal women without osteoporosis, but 4-5% of such women *with*
osteoporosis, have celiac disease. This seems to be confirmation of the 1%
incidence of CD in normal populations reported elsewhere. There are also
interesting findings about improvement in bone density after a year of
gluten free eating. Also some suggestion of need to test all osteoporotic
post-menopausal women for CD!
