<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Original Message: I talked with a Consumer Representative at Himmel Nutrition Inc, distributors of Ovaltine in the US (1-800-442-0099). She informed me that all three flavors of Ovaltine are wheat-free, but only the Rich Chocolate is both wheat-free and gluten-free. Follow-up: I received several messages concerned about malt in Ovaltine. The two original varieties (Malt and Chocolate Malt) obviously do contain malt. The Rich Chocolate variety has been around about 17 years, and it does *not* contain malt. It is indeed wheat-free and gluten-free. For what it's worth, I did try it yesterday, and I thought it was yummy: smooth and creamy with a rich chocolate flavor. My 3-yr-old also loves to help stir it up! The mix consists of little granules (l ike the old PDQ, for those who remember it) that dissolve quickly and completely. I called the Consumer Representative at the above number again today to verify the above information is correct, and she did specify that her information is only for Ovaltine produced in the United States and distributed by US distributors. She said to check the label and verify that the product is distributed by a US company. For example, Himmel Nutrition is based in Lake Worth, Florida. I also verified with her that they do not have dedicated line production, but she said that lines are completely cleaned between runs to avoid any cross-contamination.
