Joe,
Thanks for the update. I aslo learnt that the two point staffers hospitalised at the RVH were in critical condition. Lets us pray for the dead and the injured. A sad day for The Gambia. Deyda Hydara is gone. Deyda was a principled and honest journalist. He was a strong defender of press freedom and democracy. Gambians will certainly miss such a nice and professional fellow.
Meanwhile, a local radio sation in Dakar has reported about a planned demonstration to be convened by the Senegalese media Saturday . Radio RFM reported that the Senegalese media will converge in the capital city Dakar to condemn the killings of thier colleague journalist Deyda Hydara. Mr.Hydara was a widely respected journalist both at home and abroad. The show down in Dakar will be atttended by press
freedom defenders and media chiefs in that West African country. Post and L members will be updated about developments.

>Joe,
>We are just from the burial of the late Deyda Hydara. Thousands of
>sympathisers paid their last respects. A feeling of grief has
>penetrated the
>heart of every decent citizen of this country. Most people could not
>believe
>what had happened. They just feel that the act has gone beyond
>imaginable
>limits.
>No arrests have been effected so far. The reaction of the regime so
>far is
>to condemn the act and call on people to give information.
>The autopsy was performed today. Two bullets were removed from
>Deyda's body
>- one of them from the head.
>There were four people in Deyda's vehicle itself. One disembarked
>and the
>vehicle proceeded. As it proceeded it was ambushed. Apart from
>Deyda, one of
>the two other occupants also sustained a gun shot wound on her knee.
>They
>are currently at the RVH. Both are female.
>The incident occured at Sankung Sillah Street near the fence of the
>Police
>Maintenance Garage at Kanifing.
>Yesterday, 16th December The POINT celebrated its 13th birthday. It
>was
>founded on 16th December 1991.
>I'll keep you posted as and when the need arises.
