<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Here is the list of GF-friendly and teenage-friendly restaurants in Davis, CA: (thanks for all the responses) There is no "true" gluten free restaurant in town, but there are several that have menu items and "attitudes" that are very easy to deal with: - Fuzio is a noodle restaurant which has a system of stock menu noodles and sauces which can be combined in a variety of dishes. One choice is a rice noodle, which can be sauced with several choices. They cook to order and the rice noodles are not likely to get contaminated. It is very popular and has outdoor seating. - There are three California Cuisine-type restaurants which emphasize fresh seasonal dishes. There is usually excellent fish, veggies and potato or rice combinations. The best is Seasons, followed by Mustard Seed. Soga's is the most formal and would likely be the least appealing to a teenager. If it is the season for performances at the Mondavi Center, make reservations. - Cafe Bernardo: one family's favorite. Good polenta dish, excellent breakfast items, good egg dishes. Informal and popular - In-N-Out Burger: great for a lunch burger served protein style; they wrap the burger in large lettuce leaves instead of a bun. All ingredients are gluten free. They make the fries from fresh potatoes in dedicated fryers. - If you would like a dinner drive in the local country side, 10 miles west of Davis is the small community of Winters. The Buckhorn is a great steak/beef restaurant there that will easily accommodate a gluten-free appetite for dinner. They same owners operate the Putah Creek Cafe across the street, offering breakfast and lunch. - Little Prague: for East European food. A properly prepared goulash does not contain flour as a thickener, and the paprika should be safe. Breakfast and dinner are quite good, but ask about ingredients. - In Davis there are also several Thai restaurants which have a good reputation for that cuisine. There is also Indian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, and other ethnic restaurants. - At Pasta-? [pronounced Pasta Q] you can get a salad with chicken or fish. There may be polenta or risotto on the menu. The wait and cook staff is mostly from Italy and communication can be difficult. - Mexican: Dos Coyotes Border Cafe. Safe dishes are Tres Taco basket, or salads: Yucatan Chicken Salad and the Adobe salad. -Cantina Del Cabo: a typical taqueria in downtown, serving the usual Mexican dishes. -Taqueria Guadalajara: two locations in shopping centers, one in the West and one in the South. Tacos are very good & cheap; not much ambiance. Stores: - If you need a store that sells gluten free foods, the Davis Co-Op has the typical grocery store choices. - Nugget is a local market chain that has an emphasis on variety and more interesting foods. It has excellent produce and meat departments and a deli with a resident chef. The GF ingredients are in the regular stock. - Natural foods store with a restaurant attached: Natural Food Works and Farmer Kitchen Cafe 624 4th, between E & F, Davis CA, 530.756.1862 www.naturalfoodworks.com _______________ Elaine Korngold Portland, OR *Support summarization of posts, reply to the SENDER not the CELIAC List*
