<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Last week Michael Thorn posted a message about "Mama's" Italian (and seafood) restaurant on New York's Long Island. Visiting my son in Ronkonkoma, I was thrilled to find it only minutes away (1352 Montauk Highway, Oakdale NY 631-567-0909). The owners, John and Teresa, offer a gluten free menu that consists of 7 appetizers (from Shrimp Cocktail to Fried Calamari), soups, 6 salads, 9 entrees (from Grilled Chicken or Shrimp Parmigiana to Chicken Marsala), 10 pasta entrees (from Pasta w/ Mushrooms to Pasta Primavera), and 10 seafood entrees (from Flounder Scampi to Octopus Marinara). The food was excellent, service was great, portions are large--my side of spaghetti was a meal in itself--and my gluten family members loved their food and we all had some to take home. Prices of entrees average about a fair 15.95. This is pure altruism on the part of the owners who were inspired by one celiac customer's needs. John said he researched celiac and waited until he was sure all was properly done. (He would offer pizza, but knows he would need a dedicated oven.) Now, I have no connection with "Mama's" or anything on Long Island, but it's about 50 miles(?) from Manhattan on the south shore (better call for reservations), and there are beaches and numerous highlights on the island, such as the "Cradle of Aviation Museum" and many other attractions. And if you're too far away, John and Teresa offer a great sign of hope for us all! -- Ron In upstate NY. *Support summarization of posts, reply to the SENDER not the Celiac List*
