I renewed Norton Anti-virus subscription (2004) on my husband's computer Tuesday, 8/10 (yes, we had been getting the nagging reminder), it's expiration is 8/16/04. The new expiration is now 8/16/05 - I didn't lose any days. The cost was $19.95 for the Norton Anti-virus. I noticed during the renewal that Norton offered about four different programs and I imagine some of them cost more than the basic anti-virus program.
