New to this forum, software developer trying to be a PC Tech...... I have an Old PC Gateway 486 DX/33 with 2 Hard Drives a 20MB and a 7 MB. I created a Windows 95 Bootdisk from the PC prior to starting this, the system was hanging once in awhile when working on a spreadsheet or word document . Ran FDisk and created a new Dos Partition on the 20MB which was the Primary Drive. When I attempted to Format the drive it came up with an Error message Invalid Media Type. The drive is recognized on startup....I can enter C: from the A:Drive and get to the drive but cannot get a Dir on it or format it. I downloaded a new Win95/95a Boot Disk from FreePCHelp here and ended up with the same problem. I have tried this numerous times and at one point actually got a Incorect Dos Version Error but since have gotten the invalid media. I tried downloading the Dos6.2 Boot Disk just incase it was a version problem but same results.... I attempted the FDisk/mbr and then Sys C: but did not work either. As a last resort I switched the cable and the Jumper on the two drives and made the 7MB the primary. Ended up with the same result... I find it hard to beleive they both went bad.... Both drives were good prior to attempting this..... I know the pc is too old to really worry about, but I am trying to learn here and would appreciate any help you can give me...
