Is this a rare disease? Hardly...1 in 133 equates to approximately 1.5 million people. Frequently misdiagnosed, Celiac disease has a broad range of symptoms and no - typical - symptoms. The symptoms of Celiac disease are triggered by the ingestion of gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye, barley and perhaps oats. The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) Annual Education Conference being held on June 4, 5, & 6 at the Double Tree-Lloyd Center in beautiful Portland, OR, promises to be full of new ideas and creative ways to cope with the gluten-free diet. There are three Conference Programs - Dietitian Program, Physician (Clinician) Program and General Program. The Dietitian and Clinician Programs are established to help dietitians, nutritionists and other health care professionals interested in learning about celiac disease and the gluten-free diet and also provide these professionals with continuing education credits. Prometheus Laboratories, Inc, San Diego, CA and Friends of Celiac Disease, Inc, Milwaukee, IL have generously provided educational grants for the professional healthcare programs.
