Sorry for the scanty info. I have both ME and XP. I've stopped using ME due to frequent hanging and comming up with the blue screen. I formatted the partition and re-installed ME but continued having the problem. I am yet to get a solution for that problem. I wish I knew what makes the PC hang. It was then that I decidedv to be using XP. It has also hang once or twice but this is the first major problem I have. On anti-virus, I have AVG. Let me point out that I'm not online and therefore unable to execute the HOUSECALL option. I'll try to get the latest AVG update and check for viruses. Once again, thanx -----Original Message----- From: Joe Lore [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Tuesday, March 16, 2004 1:27 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [PCBUILD] - diskette problem HI, First of all if you have a regular floppy disk, it does not use an IDE cable, it uses a floppy cable. If you are using a ZIP drive (does not read floppies) or a SuperDrive (also reads floppies) that would be an IDE Device and depending on the BIOS may be set as drive A: When I have a system component that was working and all of a sudden stops, my first thought is to check for a virus. Even if the system is loaded with a anti virus software, a new virus may be out causing the problem. I will go on line and use www.housecall.antivirus.com by trend micro and check the system. It has found things that installed antivirus software has not found. Secondly, You did not mention which OS you are using. Do you have a known good, virus free, bootable diskette? Like a win 95 or 98 setup disk. Can you change your BIOS settings and try and boot from this diskette? This may also help determine if it is really a hardware problem or a software problem. Thanks and have a Great Day! Joe Lore ============================================ Hi All, I've been uable to use my floppy disk the last 2 days. Whenever I load a diskette I get the message "A: not accessible. No ID address mark on floppy disk" I've checked the IDE cable and it looks OK.
