Harvey,

The power adjustment is inside the transmitter, and you get to it by
removing a sticker from the back.  There are actually two adjustments, and
I'm not sure which is the correct one.  A friend of mine successfully
increased the transmitter's power, but I haven't been willing to take
screwdriver in hand and make the fatal twist.

You might also consider the Veronica transmitter.  It's more expensive, but
it's supposed to have more range.  Ramsey Electronics also makes FM
transmitter kits, but you'll have to get someone to build them for you.
