It turns out that both fast twitch and slow twitch mucle fibers can burn either glocose or fat. However there are two kinds of fast twitch fibers. Those that can operate in "oxidative" mode where they can burn fat, or glycolytic mode where they only burn glucose.

I'm going to alter my workout so that I'm lifting moderate weight but for longer periods of time with a cobination of fast and slow motions. If I keep the weight below 70%-80% of the maximum weight I can lift, I think I can avoid encouraging the fast-twitch, glycolitic only muscle.
