The more often you do it, the less time it takes.  It must have been really fragmented.

well, i am up. the computer was at 63 % of defrag and
still running. i took the dog out and then i fixed
some breakfast and eat. takes a while to eat and read
the ny times at the same time. it is now at 64 %. so
it may go on into the afternoon. i guess this is why i
do not do this as much as i should.
  i can at least check my email on ben's computer.
